The Dominican Republic is home to majestic coastlines and rich culture. Although it has a history of war, the country’s economy is on the rise due to tourism. The Dominican Republic is the most visited country in the Caribbean and is known for its golf courses. One of those golf courses is Casa de Campo Resorts & Villas located in La Romana.
Casa de Campo Resorts & Villas offers a tropical seaside golf course with a luxurious resort. This 7,000 acre hotel and resort offers 183 rooms and suites plus over 1,700 villas scattered across the property. This golf resort is the premier place for special getaways in the Caribbean and was ranked Golf Resort of the year in 2015 by IAGTO.
The resort, built in 1975, offers an endless amount of activities including summer camps for children, sports such as polo and tennis, cultural activities, relaxation, shopping, and activities in which you can explore the sea. There are 7 restaurants that offer dozens of international cuisines. On top of that, the resort offers three championship courses designed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Pete Dye.
The Courses at Casa de Campo
There are three courses at the resort, all designed by Pete Dye. The first, Teeth of the Dog, was chosen the number one course in the Caribbean in 2015. Built from rugged rock and coral, this course is one of the most challenging, but is worth it with 7 ocean front holes. Teeth of the Dog is the only Caribbean courses that has made it in the world’s top 100 courses on a consistent basis. The second course, Dye Fore course, has 27 holes with multiple options for 18-hole games. Holes 12 and 15 are both par three holes and two of the greatest in the world. This course offers spectacular views of the Dominican Republic landscape. Lastly, The Links course. Originally this course could have been compared to the tropical life style: easy and breezy. However, in 2012 the course was overhauled and now is just as challenging as the other two courses. This course has amazing ocean views with 5 holes having water hazards.
There have been several gold championships held at these resort golf courses. The list includes both the Eisenhower Trophy and the Espirito Santo Trophy in 1974, the Dominican Republic Open in 2014, and the Latin America Amateur Championship in 2016. Casa de Campo also hosted a photo shoot for the 1987 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Due to its beautiful scenery, never ending list of activities, and world class golf courses, Casa de Campo Resorts & Villas is a must see golf resort in the Caribbean.
